Joey Ladouceur Gets Third Place Finish in DIRTcar Sportsman Series Finale at Brockville Speedway; Finishes 2nd Overall in Series Points Standings

Going into the DIRTcar Sportsman Series finale at Brockville Speedway last Friday night, Joey Ladouceur was third place in the overall point standings, and 75 points back of the leader. Knowing it would be a tough task to regain that many points and challenge or the title, Ladouceur entered the night looking to post a solid finish, and let the points fall as they fall.

Joey timed fourth fastest in his time trial group and started the qualifying heat race from the fourth position, and quickly moved forward to finish second, earning a spot in the redraw for a top 12 starting position in the 50 lap main event. Ladouceur started from the 11th position, and was up to fourth when the race was stopped for a brief rain delay on lap 13. When the resumed, Ladouceur continued to maintain a top five position. Multiple cautions slowed the pace of the event, including a problem with the second place car in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series. With the leader marred deep in the field, the door was open for a chance at the championship as the race progressed. Ladouceur would cross the finish line in third place at the end of race, falling just 35 points of the DIRTcar Sportsman championship.

Ladouceur has now completed his first season in the DIRTcar Sportsman division, but the stats that he has posted this season have long surpassed the expectations of any first year driver in a new division.

“We have had a great season, and are very happy with what we accomplished this year”, says Ladouceur. “We were just too far back going into the night to have a realistic shot to bring home the title, but we sure closed the gap a lot. We will be back next year, and hopefully we can be even stronger”.

Joey Ladouceur Battles From the Back of the Field to Score Top 10 Finish at Super DIRT Week; Final Race of 2013 Coming Up This Weekend at Brockville

Going into Super DIRT Week this past weekend, Joey Ladouceur trailed by just 16 points in the battle for the DIRTcar Sportsman overall championship. With events at Weedsport Speedway on Wednesday night, and Friday and Saturday at the New York State Fairgrounds, Ladouceur was hoping to regain the points lead.

Wednesday night’s events at Weedsport Speedway was wide open with the track only been raced on once, in 2012 and not at all in 2013 prior to Super DIRT Week. Ladouceur was hoping for a strong run to get the week started off on a good note. After posting a fifth place time trial result in his group, Joey started his heat race from the fifth position and finished sixth, just missing a qualifying spot. He won the consolation race, earning a transfer spot into the 30 lap main event. He started from 21st starting position and it was a struggle throughout the event. When the dust settled at the conclusion of the race, Ladouceur was in 18th place.

“It was not the result we wanted, and we lost some more ground in the standings, but we are not going to give up”, explains Ladouceur after the race at Weedsport. “We have a lot of work to do to get this car ready for Syracuse on Friday and Saturday, and hopefully we can have a good run”.

Ladouceur hit the track at the New York State Fairgrounds on Friday, but a blown motor sent the team scrambling, and they missed the call for time trials. The team worked quickly to change the motor, and were ready for their 10 lap heat race that evening. Joey had to start the heat race from the rear of the field, and was more concerned with using the heat race as a practice session to dial in the new motor. He finished the race in 12th place and would have to run the last chance qualifier on Saturday.

Joey finished the last chance race from the fourth position, and would have to start the 30 lap Sportsman championship race from the 28th starting position. After dodging a few wrecks during the course of the race, and passing a few cars, Ladouceur would end the day with a 10th place finish.

“I am super happy with that, considering where we started”, says Ladouceur. “It has been a tough week, but we will take this finish and go back home and get ready for Brockville this coming weekend”.

Going into the final race of the 2013 season this weekend at Brockville Speedway for the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals, Joey currently sits third in the series point standings, 75 points out of the lead and just 13 points from second place.
