Joey Ladouceur Getting Closer to First Career Sportsman Win With Four Consecutive Top Five Finishes; Cornwall Sportsman Feature Postponed

Going into the 2013 season, Joey Ladouceur was well aware that the transition from the Pro Stock ranks where he has dominated the past few seasons to the ultra-competitive Sportsman division was not going to easy. However, he has been quick learner, and seems poised to capture his first career Sportsman victory. This past weekend, Ladouceur made a rare appearance at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, trying to get some track time with the multiple early season rainouts that Cornwall has endured early this season. They were back at Cornwall on Sunday hoping Mother Nature would finally co-operate.

On Friday night, Joey and his team left their Alexandria, Ontario shop and headed to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York. Ladouceur was a multi time winner in the Pro Stock division, and was hoping some of that success would carry over in his second career Sportsman start at the track. He started the qualifying heat race from the eighth position and quickly moved forward. Before long he was inside the top five and finished the race with a fourth place result. After making some adjustments on the car, Joey returned to the track for the 20 lap main event. He started from the 18th position, and when the green flag waved to start the race, Ladouceur was quick to move through the pack. By the halfway point of the race he was inside the top ten, and continued to charge forward. Over the final few laps Joey had moved into sixth place, made it into the top five on the final lap.

Cornwall Speedway was the next stop on the weekend schedule and after rainouts in four of the first five schedule events, everyone was anxious to get going. Joey started his preliminary qualifying event from the fifth position and advanced to third before the end of the eight lap race. Just prior to the call to lineup for the features, the rain returned to Cornwall Speedway, postponing the 20 lap Sportsman race until a later date.

Ladouceur will return to Cornwall this coming weekend for a spectacular Canada Day Weekend celebration. Sunday night will be a regular show for the Sportsman division at Cornwall, but Monday will be the second event in the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman series. After a top five finish in the first race of the series at Rolling Wheels Raceway, Joey would like nothing more than to get his first career win at Cornwall in front of the best Sportsman drivers throughout Ontario, Quebec and New York State.

Joey Ladouceur would like to thank all of the sponsors that are on board for the 2013 racing season. Coffrage 20-20/Pompage 20-20, Fence Depot, Minimax Express, Glengarry Truck Centre, Gauvreau Terre de Surface, Mr. Radiator, Lakeside Landscaping, Au Vieux Duluth and Finish Line Web Design are all an integral part of the Ladouceur team and they look forward to sharing their success with all of you in the future.

Joey Ladouceur Continues Impressive Rookie Season With Third Place Finish in DIRTcar Sportsman Series at Rolling Wheels and Fourth at Cornwall Opener

After several years of dominating the Pro Stock ranks, Joey Ladouceur made the jump to the Sportsman division to start the 2013 and has found instant success. He was hoping to continue that success this past week with the first round of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series on Wednesday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway and Sunday night at Cornwall Speedway as they finally got their 2013 season underway after three consecutive rainouts.

The first round of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman tour took place last Wednesday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, New York. Joey has had some success at the track in the past, and hoped that experience would pay off in the Sportsman car. Joey set the eighth fastest speed overall in time trials out of the 37 cars entered, (second in his time trial group) and carried that success into his qualifying heat race with an impressive second place finish, earning a spot in the redraw for the 30 lap main event. He started from the fourth position and maintained that spot through most of the race before moving to third as the final laps counted down.

“We are extremely happy with this finish”, says Ladouceur after the race. “When we arrived here, our goal was to just make the show, and after running so well in time trials, the bar was raised and the goal was a top ten finish. To come here and finish third with this elite group of competitors really helps boost our confidence and we cant wait to get to have the Sportsman Series back at Cornwall next month”.

The track conditions at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday were rough due to the amount of rainfall at the track in the days leading up to the race, in addition to already standing water that had caused the previous cancellations. Track officials continued with the program though, and Joey was about to make his first Sportsman start at a track that he has had the most success at over the years in the Pro Stock division. He started his qualifying heat race from the fourth position after a pre-race draw determined starting positions for opening night. He advanced to third before the end of the eight lap event. It was a long delay before the 20 lap feature, but in the early hours of Monday morning, Ladouceur hit the track, starting from the 12th position. After moving into the top ten very quickly, Ladouceur soon set his sites on the top five, and reached that mark just past the halfway point of the race. Over the final laps, he moved up one more position and posted a solid fourth place finish in his maiden Sportsman voyage at Cornwall.

“It was a good run for us tonight. We are really happy with that finish, and we are able to put the car on the trailer in one piece”, says Ladouceur. “It was a rough night with a lot of torn up equipment here tonight and we can only hope next week will be much better”.

Ladouceur will return to Cornwall this coming Sunday night and it will be driver autograph night at the track. Joey and the rest of the Cornwall Speedway drivers will be available for autographs and to meet with the fans during the intermission.

Joey Ladouceur would like to thank all of the sponsors that are on board for the 2013 racing season. Coffrage 20-20/Pompage 20-20, Fence Depot, Minimax Express, Glengarry Truck Centre, Gauvreau Terre de Surface, Stinger X Chassis, Au Vieux Duluth and Finish Line Web Design are all an integral part of the Ladouceur team and they look forward to sharing their success with all of you in the future.

Joey Ladouceur Gets Top Five Finish in First Career Sportsman Start at Mohawk Raceway; Rolling Wheels DIRTcar Series Opener Coming up Next

After sitting idle the previous week, Joey Ladouceur and his team were anxious to get back to the track this past weekend. Mohawk International Raceway was their chosen destination of Friday night and they also hoped to finally get the season underway at Cornwall Speedway, as they were to host the first round of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series after dealing with back to back rainouts to start their 2013 season.

Mohawk International Raceway has been very good to Joey Ladouceur over the years, collecting many feature wins along the way, including his 100th career DIRTcar Pro Stock victory last summer. After graduating into the Sportsman ranks this year, Ladouceur was making his first Sportsman start at the track and they were optimistic that they would have a setup in the car that would make them very competitive throughout the night. Joey started 10th in his qualifying heat race and moved up to fifth place before the checkered flag. In the 20 lap main event, he started from the 15th position and quickly moved forward at the drop of the green flag. The first caution of the race came on lap nine and Joey was now into the top ten, and looked very strong in the first half of the race. Just a few laps later he was inside the top five, and finished the race with a strong fifth place run.

“The car was good, but we need to work on it a little bit more to get up there and challenge for the win”, says Ladouceur after the race. “We are happy with this run though, and it gives us something to build on for the next time we come back here”.

Cornwall Speedway was up next on the schedule with the first round of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman series scheduled, but for the third consecutive week to start the season, Mother Nature had other plans and track officials were forced to postpone the event. This will now set up a huge weekend at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Canada Day Weekend with the previously scheduled weekly Sportsman event on Sunday, June 30th followed by the rescheduled Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series race on Monday, July 1st.

With Cornwall’s series race getting postponed, the first race of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman series will now be this Wednesday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York. Ladouceur will then return home to prepare for Sunday’s event at Cornwall Motor Speedway as they make their fourth attempt to get the 2013 season underway.
