After getting his first career win last Sunday at Cornwall Speedway, and a top ten finish last Monday at Cornwall in the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series event, Joey Ladouceur and his team set their focus on the next Series race at Ransomville Speedway last Wednesday night. Ladouceur last visited the track in September of 2006 with his Pro Stock, and was looking forward to returning with the Sportsman. He also planned to race at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night.
A third place finish in his qualifying heat at Ransomville locked Joey into the redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the 50 lap feature. By luck of the draw, he pulled the number two selection and started the race from outside of the front row. Ladouceur jumped out the lead right at the initial start of the race and despite several cautions in the event, he held the top spot for all 50 laps, taking his first career DIRTcar Sportsman Series victory and moving into first place in the point standings after three events.
"I'm real fortunate. When I came here and raced Pro Stock back in the day - against Jipp Ortiz and Pete Stefanski - they're pretty tough," said Ladouceur, who is also getting some help from a friend. "This is a tough class too, but I have Billy Dunn from Number One Speed helping me with setups, and it's made the learning curve a lot quicker."
Cornwall Speedway was the next stop on the schedule, but once again rain was in the forecast, and an early afternoon shower forced track officials to cancel their program for the fifth time this season.
This coming weekend, Joey will follow the Sportsman Seaway Series with events scheduled at Autodrome Granby on Friday night, and Autodrome Drummond on Saturday. He will return to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday for double Sportsman features, making up for the rainout from a couple weeks ago.
