With just one more week remaining in the 2013 season at Cornwall Speedway, Joey Ladouceur finds himself in the midst of a three-way battle for the Sportsman track championship in just his first year of competition. Ladouceur will go into the night with a 14-point advantage over second place, with third just two additional points behind. Joey is also fifth in the Seaway Sportsman series, which will also conclude this weekend at Cornwall.
As the point leader, Joey would have to come from the rear of the field in his qualifying heat race, and quickly moved forward at the drop of the green flag. Over the course of the eight lap race, Ladouceur was able to make his way up to third place. The team made some adjustments on the car, and Joey hit the track for the 20 lap feature. A lap eight yellow slowed the field and Joey had not been able to make up much ground, another caution on lap nine and he was battling in the eighth position. On the ensuing lap 9 restart, Joey took advantage of an opening and was able to propel himself into third place. Just a couple laps later, rain began to fall, and soon the official word that the race was over at lap 13 was made, and Joey was credited with a 3rd place finish.
“It a little disappointing that we didn’t get to run the full 20 laps”, say Ladouceur, we had a good car, and we may have been able to challenge for the win. Either way though, it was a solid points night for us, and hopefully we can run well here next week and get the championship”.
This coming Sunday night at Cornwall is championship night. It will be a 40 lap event as part of the Seaway Sportsman Series and the final race in 2013 at Cornwall Speedway. The following weekend will be a trip west beginning with a another stop at the site of Joey’s first DIRTcar Sportsman Series win at Ransomville Speedway on Friday, September 6th followed by a trip to Merrittville Speedway on September 7th and Humberstone Speedway on September 8th.
