After a second place finish
at Super DIRT Week the previous week, Joey Ladouceur entered the final race of
the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series at Brockville Speedway on Friday night with a
35 point advantage. He needed to
maintain an eighth place finish or higher to secure his second consecutive
DIRTcar Pro Stock championship. In
addition to the Pro Stock race, Ladouceur also had planned to make his DIRTcar
Sportsman debut on Sunday, but rain forced the cancellation of the day’s
events.
Ladouceur last competed at
Brockville Speedway in this event in 2010, finishing with a third place
result. The event was cancelled last
year due to rain, so Joey and the team were eager to hit the track this year as
part of the opening night of the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals. Joey got off to a slow start, qualifying 10th
fastest out of the 18 Pro Stocks on hand in the time trial session, he
struggled again in the heat race, coming up with a fifth place finish, placing
him in the ninth position to start the 50 lap main event. As the race approached halfway, Ladouceur
had climbed his way up to the third position, despite being very cautious, not
wanting to take any unnecessary chances.
By lap 30 he made the pass for second, and began to focus in on the race
leader. Over the final 20 laps,
Ladouceur maintained the second spot, and crossed the line as the 2012 Mr.
DIRTcar Pro Stock champion.
“This year we were able to
go out and run the final race and not have rain play the deciding factor”, says
Ladouceur, who was making his final appearance in the Pro Stock division. “It feels really good to be able to win it
this way. I was very cautious in the
opening laps, not wanting to take any chances, but once things settled down, we
were able to race a little bit more”.
Joey Ladouceur would like to
thank all of the sponsors that are on board for the 2012 racing season. Coffrage 20-20/Pompage 20-20, Fence Depot,
Minimax Express, Glengarry Truck Centre, Gauvreau Terre de Surface, Stinger X
Chassis and Finish Line Web Design are all an integral part of the Ladouceur
team and they look forward to sharing their success with all of you.
“We had a great run over the
years in the Pro Stock division, and we look forward to moving on next season
to a new challenge in the Sportsman division”, says Ladouceur. “I really have to thank our sponsors, crew
members and all of our families for their support, and we cant wait to get the
2013 season started”.
